A Love Letter to Friendship and Scotland

25th May | Shot in the hills near Edinburgh

At the end of May, we headed out into the hills just outside Edinburgh to shoot something that’s been living in my head for a while, a visual love letter to friendship, and to Scotland itself.

The concept was soft and nostalgic. Think Atonement, that dreamy, cinematic kind of atmosphere where everything feels a little like a memory. We styled the shoot to lean into that mood: expressive, beautiful clothing that felt slightly surreal against the landscape, like the subjects had wandered out from another time or place. It’s not what you’d usually wear outdoors, and that contrast gave it a slightly magical, otherworldly feel.

Rather than staging anything, we focused on movement and quiet connection, the real stuff. Those little glances, pauses, and gestures between friends that say more than any pose ever could. There’s a kind of unspoken language in close friendships, and we wanted to capture that honestly.

Most of it was shot digitally, but I mixed in some film to add texture —the softness and warmth that you can’t quite replicate. It felt important that the images didn’t just look beautiful, but that they felt like something you could step back into.

As a fashion photographer based in Dundee, I’m always drawn to the contrast between elegance and raw landscape, between styled moments and genuine emotion. This shoot brought all of that together in a way that felt quiet and true.
